Friday 18th January 2018 - After Thomas was born, he had skin to skin with his Mummy, took a while to open his eyes, calmly looked around and adjusted to being out and alive.
Shortly after, he had a drink of milk and drifted in and out of sleep until it was time to get checked by the midwife, who said he was doing very well
Daddy got him dressed in a vest and his home from hospital dinosaur babygro and Mummy, Daddy and Thomas were taken into their own room in the hospital where they could all sleep for the night
Mummy didn't do much sleeping, she spent most of the night watching Thomas in his hospital cot
Early in the morning, she had some toast with jam and a cup of coffee and made a video for Clara and Ira to see before they went off to school and preschool
Daddy went back to the birth centre to get the car (they'd come by ambulance to the Royal London Hospital in the night) and Thomas slept on his Mummy's lap
After lunch, the midwife said that Thomas and Mummy were both doing well and could go home. Daddy drove them home in the car, with Thomas in the back in his car seat
When they arrived home, Ira was waiting excitedly to meet his new baby brother
Mummy said she thought Thomas looked very much like Ira as a baby
Ira cuddled Thomas and decided they should show him his bed in Mummy and Daddy's room right away. So Grandma helped Mummy by carrying Thomas upstairs to see Mummy and Daddy's bedroom and his bed and teddies
Grandma was so happy to finally meet Thomas - her fifth grandchild
And Grandad was delighted too
Clara came home after school and went straight to meet her baby brother - who she'd been talking to and singing to and waiting to meet for months!
She held him on her lap with a look of pure joy
And marvelled at how tiny he was
Grandad took their first family photo with Mummy and Daddy looking very much like they'd been up all night.
And then there were five <3
Grandma and Grandad said that they were sad but it was time for them to go home. So Mummy took a photo of them too.
Baby Thomas spent the evening on Mummy's lap until it was time for all of them to go to bed. And he slept quite well throughout the night in his own bed.. for now..
